Win the last play: overtime and Face Off

· FALSE START

How a match works: two 30-second halves, quick play selection, sudden-death overtime and a captain-versus-captain finish.

FALSE START — Bring your friends. Earn the bragging rights.

A FALSE START match has two 30-second regulation halves, 15 seconds to select a play (20 in Rookie solo play), and a brief countdown before the action. The clock runs during play. Choosing plays, replays and stoppages add to the time you spend in a match.

Make each possession count

The opening coin toss sets up the first kickoff. The other team receives to start the second half. You still need to move the chains, protect possession and decide when to pass, run or kick. A touchdown scored as regulation expires can still complete its conversion sequence.

A tie gets another chance

A tied regulation game goes to a fresh coin toss and 30 seconds of sudden-death overtime: the next score wins. If that overtime clock runs out without a winner, the game moves to Face Off.

Captains take the field

Face Off narrows the action to one player from each team. The ball drops from above midfield, the captains race for possession, and teammates spectate. In a room with teammates, each team’s first active player takes the captain role. The CPU plays for a side without a human player.

Carry the ball into the end zone to win. A tackle, fumble or a carrier running out of bounds can decide the duel for the opposing team. Moving early during the countdown also loses the Face Off, so wait for the start. The winner receives the deciding point and the match ends.

Built for another game

Short halves leave room for a rematch. Face Off gives a tied game a finish when overtime has not settled it.
